The same has been done with inflation era stamps and cancellers. Genuinely used inflationstamps are also worth much more than unused ones, so it is tempting to cancel them.

The cancels on these stamps are very perfectly placed. I wonder though if the stamps photoshopped next to each other by WpgLwr are really different stamps, or the same stamp in two different scans. I would think the latter.

@warrehouse: $16.00 for authentic used - is that correct? I have Michel prices in my head and they are more in line with what scb mentions. If these prices are how Scott values them, buy all you can at 100% of Scott and then sell them in Germany for 10% (or more) of Michel's c.v.

Mike is quoting from 1995 Scott catalog. I only have my 2007 catalog with me right now. The price for genuine expertized used copy is $875 (italicized price).

So buying these in the US in the 1990s would have been a good investment... If only one knew such things in advance.

And assuming you could actually find it in the US. Genuine expertized used examples dated in late April are rare.

I wonder what the Michel price was in the mid-1990s?

This is quite interesting. Any aspiring writers out there? I see a best seller historical novel here: rare genuine postal use, Hitler's suicide, Russian army take over of Berlin, stolen stamps and canceling devices, fake cancels. I'd buy the book!
