I thought I had a difficult time with the 11 main print styles in the Bureau Print Album and then Bobgggg sends me "The Precancel Stamp Society's Town and Type Catalog of the United States and Territories" with a ton of different print styles..this is going to be like intrepreting the Rosetta Stone !!

That's why some collectors limit themselves to ONLY Bureau Precancels.

Those foolish mortals!

Even if you limit it to one city per line, you will need to get a LOT of stockpages!

Have LOTS of fun!

Oh theres Chicago, New York, St. Louis, Kansas City, Detroit, St. Paul and Minneapolis, San Francisco..etc etc..the thing I will have to do is hunt for the small New York towns..probably most pre cancels are sold in mixtures..perhaps I can find a dealer with individual stamps !!

Yeah! Plus, exercising the brain with new challenges might even delay senility.

For reasons already posted, my locals outnumber my bureaus by a wide margin.

And locals are so much more interesting too!

Marty, so we have at least two common interests...Guatemala and U.S. precancels...its amazing..i have very little interest in U.S. stamps..with the exception of precancels..i think I am drawn to overprinted stamps for some reason !!

The beauty of precancels is that its a fun thing without spending a lot of money..case in point...i found a Guatemala airmail cover from the 1930's today to destination Costa Rica..it was a decent cover to a location I do not have in my collection...i thought I saw 10 dollars penciled on the back of the cover and would have stepped up to 10 bucks...on further review the figure was 15 dollars...i am sorry , I put it back in the box.....

G'Day all thought I'd drop in and say HELP,Phil I have no literature on precancels non what so ever or I haven't found in the Scott catalogue or the specialized catalogue so I feel like I'm poking the bee's nest with a stick, can you please tell me with what Scott number/series was the first precancel printed on and what city/town would have been the first.
As you know I do collect precancels and just received another lot from ebay of over 600 and to my surprise the precancels were on the 1975 to 1981 definitives and my question is how many years were precancels printed and on how many stamp combinations and what books do you recommend to cover this amount of overprinting oh who was it that said "Don't poke the bear"well I fell like I've got the short end of the stick .
Thanks in advance
and with regards Harry
