Here are the first 2 pages of my 1st frame exhibit (non judged)that I will be showing on October 25. They are comprised of precancels from Illinois towns found east to west along Route 66. Let me know what you think

Neat! Are they in any kind of order? For example, geographically as you leave Chicago going westward?

EDIT: Reading your original post, apparently they are.

How many frames can you do in the exhibition? How many do you have stamps for?

Phil & Mike,
Glad you both like them. Are there any suggestions? I am not sure how many members in the stamp club have done frames before. Maybe I'll get some feedback from the dealers present. Hopefully, some new material to enhance my collection!

I still have to finish up the remaining 6 states of precancels, write a title/summary page, and with the remaining available pages put in some FDC's, pictorial postmark event covers, & postcards.

BTW I still am looking for a Nat King Cole scott #2852 FDC

WpgLwr,
Right now I am focusing on 1 frame which holds 18 letter size pages (I think). The precancels will should take 6 pages. I probaly have enough material for several frames if I use all my covers & postcards.

As far as I know I am the only person doing a frame, possibly 1 more. Our show is promoted as a bourse, so technically there are not any exhibits just dealers.

Yes they will be arranged moving westard from Chicago all the way to Los Angeles. Now this is somewhat confusing because of the many alignment changes from 1926 to the 1980's when Route 66 was bypassed completely by the Interstate system and decommissioned.

I was thinking that another way you could stretch it out a little is blow up a section of a '50s (or older) road map, and use that as a background, mounting the stamps near where their town appears.

While I like what you have done, it needs a little something to liven it up, I think, and judges are big on artsy stuff (even though you're not being judged).

WpgLwr,
Funny you suggest that, I had originally thought about doing just that, but it would take me forever to impose that many sections of map and mount nearly 150 stamps to the appropiate sections of 2,448 miles. Who knows maybe I will do that next time. I do have duplicates for most of the precancels. I am normally philatelically artistic, but for this I approached it as very straight forward yesterday.

What I like is that you had only 4 dups on 1st page 3 on second page.
I think as long as you show a differnet stampthe better.
I know you cannot get all the same in this case.

Mike

Mike,
I really did try to use a face different stamp. I considered it a bonus if I had a commemorative, bob, or newer post-1940 definite.

I know what you can do...use the road sign in your title.

I was thinking of really pulling out all the stops for the title page with fancy text & images in full color. I might still redesign my pages, they are rather drab. My wife might not like that since she printed the town names individually on her label maker last night for my while I mounted the stamps. LOL

How many pages to fill the display?

You could put the Hwy66 sign full size on each sheet or
compinding all pages to form the sign!

Another thought! Do you have some classic period Matchbox Cars or other like dye-case cars. You could place the cars on a road with white dash center-line at the base of your display.

Mike, 18 (see prior postings)

sharksfan11,
Some are difficult to find if you don't know where to look. Fortunately, most are common as I soon found out. Once completed I will have around 175 different towns represented as precancels and I am still needing 14 towns. Just think, what I've shown is only 2 pages of my precancel collection covering only Illinois from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River.
