This came in a box of stamps I found at a garage sale a couple of years ago. It's postmarked June 1918 and the stamp is Scott 96 from Bavaria, though it was marked 95(I) from an unknown source at an unknown time. Someone bought it or offered it for $5.00, then. The card is a "real photo" postcard, meaning an actual photographic print on special post card paper. You can see the silver on this one. It looks as if child models were posed to show a German soldier of WWI saying good-by (Auf Wiederssehn!) to his sweetheart.

That is a really nice piece. Actually its kind of spooky, but it does reflect the times and that's what makes it so special.
That's the other cool thing about stamps - you might collect that particular stamp, but look at all the extra baggage it comes with - now that's HISTORY! |

Phil, You are so funny! I find it interesting that a nurse is sitting on the bed--when I was in nursing school, they taught us that sitting on the patient's bed could spread germs! Hey wait a second , I think I know that nurse standing up--she was my nursing instructor! ha

I'm sure any of those guys would have been willing to sway a few germs with her. Very nice cards! |

Have disabled the links to this historical document. Children should not be used to romanticize war. |

Haunting andbeautiful at the same time. I don't think showing the picture is romanticing war. It just merely shows what people thought and liked at that point in time. |

Very interesting cards. I also don't think there is anything wrong with showing things like that from the past...it's a way to learn and remember how things used to be. |
