I note that we are "Proud APS Chapter #1572-215263". Do we, as a group, have access to APS Circuit Books?

If so, could we have someone oversee these? I realize that it may be a lot of work to do, but I visualize something like this:

1. Thread to request certain countries, maybe starting in alphabetical order.
2. Circuit book, on arrival, is scanned and posted, and people can speak for stamps they want to buy. Scans are kept up to date, with spoken for stamps crossed off in scan.
3. They then have a time limit to send their money and a SASE or an extra buck to cover same, for the stamps they want.
4. Stamps are sent to them when their money arrives.

It's just an idea, but I feel that it may be a worthwhile one to pursue. I realize that some members sell in our forum, and this is not intended to compete with them, but to supplement our own marketplace, and even generate some more interest in it.

As I said, this may be a lot of work, but maybe it would interest the membership.

Glenn:

You cannot have the circuit books sent to you in Canada. Well you can... but, Revenue Canada will charge you the full GST on the $2000-odd dollars of stamps that they send you. You must pay that before the parcel is handed over to you.

Then, after you pick your stamps and send them back, along with payment... you will have to claim the GST refund you're entitled to, from the Federal Government. Good Luck!

Fine, but I was thinking of this taking the form of a group activity, and whoever was in charge of it could be in the States. Everyone sees the stamps online, buys what they want, sends in their money and a SASE, and gets their stamps.

I know fully well how Canada Post and Revenue Canada set up the whole GST on stamps (and other things) on approval, valuing the whole shipment before the receiver even sees them, and yes, it is stupid...

...but then again, it was set up by Conservatives, wasn't it?

Good idea working out of the States, Glenn... it may work.

Yes... the PC's did the GST thing... it was the Reformers that opposed it.

Well, all we need is someone living in the US to act as the agent for this.

Volunteers, anyone?

The great thing is that we could all probably fill in some spaces, and help out a lot of other APS members -- it wouldn't surprise me if our members could pick a book clean within a week...
