Hello everyone,

Today I found a box from a family friend who experienced world war 2 while living in Poland. The box was full of post cards that includes 33 nazi and 5 soviet postcards from 1940-1943.

All of the soviet cards that I have except for the one pictured have had their stamps cut out. Is this the way that stamps were canceled at the time, or was this done after the war?

I imagine that nazi items are quite collectible, but these cards are used and show their age. What would cards like this be worth?

Thanks

It appears that the cut out stamps show that there was a collector in the family.

The Nazi ones obviously qualify as being postal history. To someone specializing in how postal cards were handled in German-occupied Poland, they may well be great examples, and may show such things as type of cancel used, time frame when extra handstamps were used, when certain rates were in effect, etc.

After taking a look at other sources such as ebay, I have learned that these are not postcards, they are considered stationary cards. Instead of having a picture on the front of the card they are blank and were meant for the sender of the card to write their message.

The Nazi ones could actually be of historical importance- as was stated above about the transfer of mail in Nazi-occupied Poland. Great finds!
