Postcards often give us a glimpse of times past and for that I really enjoy them. This is especially poignant for a place such as Hiroshima when you consider what happened on August 6 1945, then contrast that with these "before" scenes. Whether they are shortly before that or not I can't say. I do notice some military items here and there. Feel free to give thoughts on what time period you think these might be.
5 are in red tint and give the place names.
8 are in green tint and just say "A famous place of Hiroshima".
None have been used so I'll just show the fronts.

Enjoy!,

Great old post cards OldGum

I just love the history you can bring back through collections don't you.

Just to add a little to your post: When I try to help someone choose an unusual tree at the nursery I tell them a story about one particular Ginkgo tree in Hiroshima that stood in front of a temple.

Apparently after the Bombing the temple was destroyed and the tree was just a charred log. They had removed the rubble from the temple to build a new one and were about to cut down the charred tree when they noticed new growth coming from the blackened branches.

They took it as a sign and built the temple around the tree where it still stands today.

I sell a lot of Ginkgo trees by telling this story I also have one in my yard.

Dianne

OldGum.....

Nice group of cards......the auto in the last photo makes me think of the late 1920's......but I guess it could be any time period from about 1900 to the late 30's.
