I have this Weehawken, NJ which obviously had not been postaly used. But it's still an imperforate precancel. It doesn't make sense that whoever cut this out of the sheet would ruin 10 imperforate stamps.
It must have come from a rejected sheet due to the poor quality precancel.
warrehouse, that would mean there is a $30 loss with 10 destroyed imperforates. I have another of these that has one Weehawken, NJ surrounded by 6 destroyed imperforates. Crazy is right!
So unless the collector is seeking out all Chicago types & issues, most precancel collectors will pay only around $3 for that style type, not $30 or $33, so a collecter could opt for a that style type for one on a lesser expensive stamp. They may be willing to pay $10-15 taking into consideration the standard (Scott's) value of that issue. You could likely fine a seller who can't sell his precancel, because a sellers buyers want a non-overprinted stamp as listed in Scott's catalogue, then you could get this stamp from a seller who would become willing to part from it at a great discount, say about $10-15.
Well, I've read the dilemma several times and I think I now understand what you are saying ...but don't test me on it since I doubt I can express it in my own words.
