As most of you folks know... I'm a big history fan.
I've read a number of books about FDR, including the greatly detailed 1200+ page tome by Lord Black. When I went to visit Phil & Jopie, they took us to Hyde Park. What a great time for a history buff like me.
Here's a little background before I show you this cover. Everyone knew FDR was a stamp collector. People wrote to FDR and in those days, Presidents and Prime Ministers often wrote back!
When FDR died in 1945, his collection was auctioned off by H.R. Harmers of New York City. The collection was a standard hobby collection, no great rarities. But... it was from FDR's collection.. so it was hammered for much over catalogue.
Everything that was auctioned from the late President's collection was stamped with a rubber stamp, by H.R. Harmers.
Look at this cover, postmarked Independence Day, 1938:

On the front, note the 18-cent Special Delivery rate, properly paid, mostly with Prexies, and the date and place for the postmark... addressed to "The President". On the back, note the rubber stamp from Harmers, The Washington, DC "Special Del" section postmark.
I picked this up at last night's OPS meeting.
