I was sorting through a United States collection, at work, to-day. I like used stamps, and was pulling one- and two-cent Columbians out, that looked respectable enough to be put into stock, for sale.

Anyhoot, I am the POSTMARK guy. I saw this stamp... catalogue value, 40-cents:

I thought it might be a good way to start a collection of interesting postmarks on Columbians, eh? So I asked to buy the stamp. Ian said "Oh, just take it".

I love my job.

Show me your interesting postmarks on U.S. Columbians!

David

I want a job like that!

Sorry I don't have anything to post on this thread. I only have two Columbians and neither of them have a good post mark.

Very nice cancel on those Harry. Usually when a reg. cancel is applied it was quickly or sloppily applied. Those are very well defined and looks like patience was used when applying them.

David almost forgot to add but I have a couple of hundred of either the one or two centers. If your looking to do a cancel study on them.
I also have been slowly making a little lot of your King George VI from Canada and other World issues as I have been breaking down some classic albums for you.

I would like to add that Colombian Postmarks are a an exciting area of philately. I am talking about the Exposition post marks. They were many and varied and on cover multiply the value of the used stamp by two or three fold.

nuggethill, I was looking at your registered cancellation and noticed the date in the red cancellation. It appears to be either 1910 or 1916. Just as an aside would this late use of the Columbians be considered a contemporary usage? It is my understanding that the Columbians were on sale until the first years of the new century. Certainly until the Trans-Mississippi issue went on sale in 1898. I seem to recall reading that the Columbians remained on sale even after that.
