This just came in the mail the other day. I thought it was neat (and strange) to have the regional stamps from England (lions) and Wales (dragon) on it and also a stamp and cancel from Eire (Ireland, southern big part, Republic of).

But when you look closely at the cancellations you notice that the dates are different. The Irish stamp was used on this envelope in July 2009 from Baile Atha Cliath, Ireland, and the Great Britain and regional stamps were postmarked in January 2010 at Leeds Mail Centre, northern central England.
I do like these older regional stamps. Nice heraldic touch with the metallic dragon and lions! Oh, and the two-ring / inner split-ring barrel cancel from Ireland. This definitively leans me towards collecting Irish stamps and covers now. The visual appeal of a cancel helps display the stamps better I think, somewhat like a movie is made much better by good music, example Star Wars.
Boy, if NASA had had good music for the space shots over the years I believe people's imaginations still would be all fired up about space and the possibilities 'out there'. Not to say there aren't possibilities 'in here'. Ya just need the music to get the emotions going.
