Given the choice, I would always recommend collecting quality over quantity. Putting the monetary value of the stamps aside if possible, quality will always be quality and junk will likely always be junk. You may have less stamps but will likely enjoy them more if they are of quality as opposed to filled pages of lesser quality stamps. And if you continue to collect, your quantity will likely increase anyway, just by the nature of collecting.
I have found the trading and buy/sell circuits of the "International Society of Worldwide Collectors" a comfortable and economical way to acquire stamps on a worldwide basis at a resonable cost or swap basis. Welcome and good luck in your pursuits.
