The thread on hexagonal stamps took a little side turn to pneumatic mail tubes. Here's the link to an article, one of several I've read recently, about the system in New York City. Berlin and other German cities had similar systems and I've seen references to a system in London as well.

Here is more about the system in London, with a nice pic of one of the little locomotives.[still running at a Railway museum !]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London...fice_Railway

One of the stops en route was the massive Mount Pleasant sorting office.

This is also the home of the Postal Museum and archive and is well worth a visit if ever in London. If I am not mistaken, and I could be, one can see the 'station' from this mail rail.
This also the home of my UK Philatelic Club, the National Philatelic Society and it's wonderful Philatelic library is housed there.

Oh to be in London......

Londonbus1.....and all those Buses !

Good evening Michael.

I've got a couple of questions about some Israeli items, but I need to scan some items first. You'll be hearing from me tomorrow.

Well you learn something new every day!

I only lived a few miles south of London and never even knew those tunnels existed.

Thanks Londonbus.

I had just recently saw a pheumatic mail cover for sale on ebay for my town. I always thought 1 would be nice for my collection, just haven't found the right one at the right price.
