Hello From Newbie

Hi all,

I am new to all of this and would love some good advice.

I was given a stamp collection book from a close friend that passed away when I was really young. My friend was a little over 90 years old when she passed away.

There are really old stamps in this book from the US and other countries. I even have US Postal Stationary squares.

I would like to know more about the value of these stamps and does it make sense for me to bring this collection to an appraiser.

By the way I think I have this stamp in my collection.
Its looks identical and I know people say that it is worth some money.
Does anyone know what the ball park is?

Hello Samith and welcome to the forum.

You haven't said whether or not you are interested in becoming a collector or if you just want to sell your stamps. Either way, if you go to your local Public Library you will find volumes of the Scott Catalogue. It's a reference for your stamps. You can check out the catalogs and look up your stamps.

If there are some that you can't find, post a picture of them here and someone will be along to help you out.

Welcome. I hope you decide to start collecting yourself. That would be a wonderful way to carry on your friends legacy & collection to pass along to another generation.

Your stamp appears to be Scott #300 issued in 1902. However, the vertical perforations appear to be trimmed off and it should have perforations on all 4 sides. The same design was also used for Scott #314 but without any perforations called an imperforated stamps. I don't recall that stamp being issued as a coil stamp, only perforated on 2 sides and imperforated on the other 2 sides.

I did start to collect more stamps when I received the book when I was young but unfortunately as time went by I ended up having a family and stopped collecting for a while.
I had the stored the stamp book in a closet for like 20 years and I just opened the book after I moved this year.

I never really new what amazing stamps were in this book until now.

Okay guys,

I have been doing a lot of research and I am starting to realize that I don't really have enough time to start collecting stamps again.

I want to start selling all of the stamps that I have but need advice on where to go for selling stamps and how should I go about doing it.

Should I go to a stamp show and try to sell them there or post them on-line, but the problem is I won't have enough info about these stamps other than posting pics.

If anyone here in this stamp forum is looking for any king of stamp let me know.
I have US and world stamps.
