I know Subway sells a worldwide packet of 10,000 all different stamps. Does someone sell a larger packet?

The Simpson wholesale mounted lots of 100,000 different stamps were $11,000. I'm guessing those are no longer available, but I haven't checked.

Wow, I won't look at kiloware on paper again judging by some of those prices on ebay. I recently paid about £41 delivered for 1 KG on paper which was said to yield approximately 3,000 stamps. I'm somewhat tempted to count them up after they're all soaked off because my haul doesn't seem anywhere near the 3K ballpark.

Hi knudson, I think your right, say a stamp with paper on it will definitely average 1 gram weight, so a 1 kilo of stamps on paper, would only be in the 1,000 piece range, and that's the high estimate. Far from a yield of 3,000 stamps

Anyone care to comment on how well these 10,000 unit WW lot's contribute to building a WW collection...the avg price per stamps seems low, but if one was going to use these lots as a primary strategy would it result in a good basic coverage with some better items?

I have had good luck with kiloware for building recent years of countries like Japan, but off-paper WW collections of many years has been more disappointing....I end up rebuying the stamps once I want to fill the holes. If I'm going to do a lot of sorting I would like it to be a bit of treasure hunt otherwise it's easier to buy glassine or collecions and just transpose...especially relatively common definitive sets.

Have you seen this link? http://www.glenstephens.com/kiloware.html

One kilo = 2.2 lbs (c.4,750 stamps) is $A70
2.5 kilos = 5.5 lbs (c.11,875 stamps) is $A150
4.5 kilos = c.10 lbs (c.21,375 stamps) is $A250
9 kilos = c.20 lbs (c,42,750 stamps) is $A450
18 kilos = c.40 lbs (c.85,500 stamps) is $A800
36 kilos = c.80 lbs (c.171,000 stamps) is $A1,450

Could be fun for a few hours.

I've purchased kiloware and large lots from ebay and don't like the duplication and damaged stamps. I'm looking for large packets of "all different". Guess its time I started looking at country collections.

That would be my recommendation. Most commercially produced all-different packets contain a lot of common stamps or CTOs. You won't get the good stuff until you get into the really large packets -- that's when you realize that after subtracting all the common stuff you already had, you basically paid close to full retail for the items you were looking for.

Did you have any countries in particular, and mint or used?

I have been thinking about building up my collection for Papua New Guinea and North Borneo. Used if lightly cancelled.

After I finish sending off the purchases from Dec/Jan, I'll toss some used PNG up to see if anything catches your eye.

So, just how long does it take to sort, identify and mount 171,000 stamps?

I'm not sure I'm going to live that long!

ironhelm-

With regard to used North Borneo, how do you feel about the barred oval cancels that were used for the CTO remainders? They had some postal uses, too.

Really, you only have to identify and mount 150 or so stamps...you'll spend the most time figuring out what to do with 1,000 copies of each.
