It depends of how much of the stamp design is covered by the cancel. I'm not anti CTO.

So, just how long does it take to sort, identify and mount 171,000 stamps?

if we take a second for sorting, another to ID, and another sec to mount, for a total of 3 seconds each stamp

and there are 3,600 seconds to an hour

and we'r looking at 171,000 stamp mountain

it comes to 5.9375 days or 6 days of non stop, non-sleep no eating, no talking and no posting at SCF

There's a future olympic sports LOL

Seriously speaking ... I've sorted quite a lot of 1-2kg off-paper worldwide boxlots, and usually they take up four to six weeks to rough sort, then 4-6 months to put everything I truly want on place, and 4-6 years to get rid of all the duplicates. LOL.

Good one, SCB.

It could be a triathlon: soaking, sorting, mounting

I just checked the R G Simpson website and quickly scanned the two pricelists offered. The largest packet of all different stamps was 40,000 for #1195.00 US mounted but a 20% discount is available. How often does this item sell?

Wrong Spock, as I mentioned in a previous thread I purchased 550 pounds of stamps at a local auction and am still going through them. I am VERY happy with my purchase and there was a great deal of variety both U.S. and foreign. I would be happy for someone to send me another 171,000 stamps.I love to sort. It is like a giant treasure hunt.

Holy sardine! That is something like 250 shoeboxes of stamps or so... I'd definitely like to get my hands to something like that some day.
