im still confused on the difference between the 2 I know I should know the difference but they sound the same to me a CTO is just a stamp collectors buy that have a cancel mark on it but was never used for postage and a pre-cancel is what then?
A precancel is a security device......a CTO is just a cancel......99% of CTO's are a circular corner cancel....most precancels are straight lines, sometimes with a city/state.
aww yes I have some of those to I was under the impression that CTO's were basically just blank spot fillers not much value to them because I have some real nice cto china stamps along with some nice mint ones most 1970's nice catalog value on alot of them
CTOs have been produced by many countries......the worst offenders are the old Soviet Bloc countries....Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and a few others.......North & South Korea.......and a lot small countries in the Caribbean.
These are the countries that most collectors feel are just space fillers.....I'm sure others here could add to this list.
Countries like China have not flooded the market with an over abundance of CTO's so they are less offensive to many collectors.
