OK, here's the first cover I've ever purchased. If you read the Main forum, you know I've bombarded David Giles with questions about collecting U.S. Airmail Postal Stationary (UC in Scott).

So here's the first cover I bought -- and it's not even in the UC category. But I like the way it looks and it was under $2

The slight pink tint is a function of my scanner -- the actual cover is "normal" color.

The envelope is sealed, but inside there is a slip of paper. I believe it is stamped with the name of the postmaster. Should I cut it open and see?

Just kidding But seriously, was that commonly done?

I realize there's no great value or interest here, so thanks for looking,
KirkS

I love that stamp. Plus with your cover being postmarked in St Louis and mentioning Chicago in the commemorative cachet it would fit nicely in my Route 66 collection. Most covers had something placed inside them to stiffen the cover. I've seen quite a few First Flight covers that have the PM's & pilots signatures.

Lovely cover, Kirk! I'm jealous of the "TOP" marginal marking... I love marginal markings.

Thanks everyone;

I'm not sure why St. Louis is written in pencil in the lower left. I assume it was done by a collector? I see lots of covers with pencil marks. I think it detracts a little, but I can live with it.

Hi Kirk

You are a victim of 'compulsive' buying lol - but then again, so am I.

You bought it becasue you liked the look of it and that's what this hobby is all about.

Hope you will be able to buy a lot more.

It may not be of great value, but it is of great interest to me. C-11 is one of my favorite US airmail issues.

Very nice and an excellent start!

I didn't notice the April 1st postmark the first time I looked at this. I like that, too. (It is amazing what you can look right past when its hidden in plain sight.)

Yeah, it's sort of silly, I guess, but with the time stamp reading 9:30 you get April 1 9 30 , 1930

But the real reason I picked it up --- I like the C-11 stamp and the way the airplane cancel appears to be flying out of the stamp.
