A few observations. The centrepiece is the early GB meter (number 214) very nice. 1d KG5 revenue pen cancel 1d KG6 perfin (KK or KR) 2s6d KG6 green interesting parcel strike The twopence halfpenny KG centenary blue, a sad reminder GB wimped out on a brilliant design by the Frenchman Edmund Dulac who produced a ripper. Although I prefer the wider format GB adopted, they pinched Dulac's design and made it passe. What could have been. |

Cannot note anything on next two pages, excepting the proof, that whist Great Britain holds a certain prestige with philately in general, they have squandered a lot of respect with their disgusting postmarks. Brickbats for their quality of postal strikes, when you place them alongside some of the fantastic examples of Switzerland, Germany and Austria, etc, the poor old GB collector has to have had infinite patience, or collect mint unhinged to get a reasonable collection. ( I now wait for incoming missiles) |

Aha, no, when viewing a page of GB used, one notes an abundance of heavily cancelled and smudged examples. Especially around the Machin era I find. |

Quote: when viewing a page of GB used, one notes an abundance of heavily cancelled and smudged examples Sad but true :( Especially the high values (from parcels etc) seem to make a nice guessing game as sometimes it's nearly impossible to ID the stamp below the "black blot". LOL |

Perhaps that's it Scb, we here in Aus probably get a lot of parcel mail from blighty, which receives the rough treatment, it's a crying shame to see block of say six 2 pound stamps just ruined.

Braveheart, Nice lots. Now sort them into order and go from there. Here's a challenge......get them sorted into some order, in an album or stockbook, get to 50 posts and I'll fill 50 empty spaces !! How about that for a challenge ! I have to fill Dianne's spaces first but there are loads here. How about it.?????? Londonbus1...off to look for ugly cancels ! |
