Fisrt is an inflation issue from Germany in the 1920's. The other is from Brazil. |

The person on the green stamp on right is Rui Barbosa who was an important Brazilian writer, jurist, and politician...and under the cancel which you can't see says BRASIL. The stamp was issued in 1961 Here are the stamps I'm working on identification (the upper right seems to say "Peso" so Latin America, below that probably isn't postage. Row 2, column 1 says "institut de gravure Paris" and "...2 Novembre 1930....that is the date of coronation of Tafari Makonnen "King of Kings of Ethiopia". He was crowned on 2 November 1930, at Addis Ababa's Cathedral of St. George....so I check Etheopia and indeed it's #216 ($1.50 cat value) from 1930 commemorating the coronation. I probably could have keyed in on the currency "Thaler" |

Hello Quanah....
Bottom right is Irish Postage Due.....need to check watermark to id.
Top row #3 is upside down.......Turkey.
Red 50 second row is Ukraine.
Double blue are a French tax of some sort.
#1 and the blue in the bottom row are Armenian.
#2 is a Lebanese postal tax stamp.
Center left with the Star of David is probably Israel. |

Thanks! I thought Israel when I saw the star of David as well but it turned out to be Etheopia and the coronation of Tafari Makonnen.
I can't remember which is which when I see the Russian States stamps...I need to get an album for pre1918 Russia and states so I can spend some time and get more familiar. I also thought of collecting post USSR independent countries so I don't keep thinking of then as "where-in-the-heck-istan"
I tried Turkey once and found many slight variations even between major numbers...it was a bit tedius.
I'm not sure what to do with the non-postage stamps (like the French ones). I just put them in a stock book. |

The lower left stamp is on it's size point left. The top is a crest with crown in center and lions on both sides. The center overprint is "10" "TIEN CENT" and in the small red text it reads "NEDERLAND PLAKZEGEL" which means Netherlands Revenue Stamp. The red overprint says "Pay any bank prior endo....The blue overprint says "5. SEP 1931.
Row 2 column 3 (thin stamp) is from Brazil. "Minas Gerais" is one of 26 Brazilian states. Vendas E Consignacoes seems to mean "sell & consign". |

You're welcome.....
still a few to work on......the green looks familiar but........odd tax stamps are a strange breed....they don't really belong with postal stamps but you/I can't just toss them out. |

THe green stamp upper right says "Paraguay" upper right and Peso is used there, too. It's L10 with postage due "C" overprint from the 1920's. General Jose E Diaz - famous general from Paraguay. |

Quote: If the brain is working correctly tonite, 4th stamp in bottom row is WW1 Georgia. Almost working correctly. That would be the 3rd stamp from the left in the bottom row (I'm ignoring the invisible stamp at left). rev' is right, it is Georgia, either #36, 36a, or 43. Can't tell from the scan. Either way, it has a modest premium. Good job IDing the stamps, everybody! k |

The Georgia stamp is Scott #43 overprint is in black & is machine printed, while 36 (violet) & 36a (black) are handstamped which leaves a low quality overprint. This overprint is sharp & clear.
The Armenian stamps are Scott 304 &309. The Ukraine stamp is Scott 71a, to be sure flip the stamp over there will be inscribtions on the reverse, the paper itself should like a thin cardboard. If correct that would be a nice fine!
The Turkey stamp is Scott J64. The Ethiopia stamp is Scott 216. The Paraguay stamp is Scott L10 for rural usage in Paraguay. The Ireland stamp is Scott J3 or J8 the difference is with the watermarks.

The Ukrain stamp (red 50) is real thin & flexible with gum on back and all I see is the printing on the other side. The paper has some dark wavey lines in it. It looks to be Scott 66 (common).
The Ireland stamp is J8 (watermark 262). J3 is worth more. |
