Am sorting my stamps from Great Britain. I've identified most but there are some whose pictures don't show. Sometimes I can't make the connection between Scott's verbal description and what I'm seeing. Is there a website that pictorially shows most or all of the stamps that were printed?

I appreciate that nr-notrare, and considered it, but didn't want to post what were probably fairly common stamps to everyone else. I did try the internet first--not much luck so far. Am finding that using the Catalog takes some getting used to, however, I was able to find some from their postmark date, others looked like other ones I had already identified (shapes/colors/designs)etc. Was just hoping that there might be that obscure website out there that someone knew of. If there isn't, after I finish tonight's search, I'll post those little puppies and see what comes up. Thanks

Here are 2 sites that might help. They are sales sites, but they do have pictures of every stamp that is for sale, with pretty decent coverage. The first site gives Scott/GB catalog numbers. The 2nd site gives Michel/Yvert catalog numbers. You may or may not find them useful. I don't use the sites personally, but some collectors really like them. Also, this is in NO WAY to be construed as a recommendation to purchase from them.

But feel free to post your stamps. I like looking at pics of stamps, and if I have time, I (and I'm sure many others) don't mind pitching in to help you ID the stamps.

Stampdog,
You can post even the most common stamps here. Put a few on a page and let us help you identify them.
The latter of the two sites Kim posted is very good for checking, but it is not complete.
Both are very expensive for purchasing.
Good luck and don't be worried to post those common stamps.

Thanks, will do, but first I want to learn to use those catalogs a bit more. So far they have been very helpful as well as enlightening. But, that being said, I will post those stamps that eventually befuddle me.

I did find this stamp in the bunch. I thought it was quite a beautiful stamp, and so BIG. WOW!

One of the loveliest of all modern GB.
Braille embossed '10' for the blind and partially blind.
Superb and I could never understand why it was taken out of service so soon !

I thought the little nibbles on the top and bottom were not supposed to be there until I saw the picture in the catalog. Yes it's quite impressive.

As Londonbus1 noted, the sites are far from complete.

There is a very good picture site I ran into only a couple years ago, but apparently I neglected to bookmark it. It was also not complete, but did a very good job for issues of the past 50 years.

One of these days, in the very distant future, I will scan and post my GB collection.

Nice 10 pounder, stampdog! It's actually a difficult stamp to get in perfect used condition, because of the size of the stamp and the paper used. The ones I've seen that were postally used, well over 90% have at least minor faults.

Hi stampdog,

Here is a site on 1840-1901 Queen Victoria stamps:
http://www.members.tripod.com/~pennyreds/

You didn't mention what era or reign of monarch you where interested in. Probably all I guess.

Here is one I just discovered. It has a lot of countries galleries of stamps. You need a fast connection.
http://galphia.com/

Not all stamps are there but they do have great resolution photos of a lot of stamps, in date of issue order. I couldn't find any other info other than the picture and date. Grab the little gray slider bar under the stamps to slide it back and forth through the photos.

Another stamp photo site with again not all but a lot of newer photos including up to 2010 and back to 1840:

For those of you with UV lamps, check out the paper fibers and the shield.

1993, March 2nd.
House of Questa, perf 14x14˝ with two ellipses on Horizontal sides.
Printed in Litho.
The whole stamp reacts under UV light because of flourescent fibres in the paper as well as on the shield.

Londonbus1......But expensive !

Edited to say it's late here, I should be in bed. But that is no excuse for slowness in posting this message !! Grrrrr!
