Hypothetical:
Say you list an album on ebay, and you figure it's worth $200 but expect to get around $100. You don't want to get burned so what should the starting price be. I have seen a lot of $0.99, and a lot for more I think a reserve is out of the question. How about a teaser like putting "Buy it Now" for $300. Still the question is what is the best starting price.

Conn

At a .99 start, you will get alot more action that can lead to bidding wars and you could get more then you expected, however you run the risk of getting to little.
If it's worth $200 selling it as "Buy it now" for $300 would be unethical.
"Buy it now" should be no higher then the value given. " Buy it now" should run from $150-200.
But if bidding drives it over $300 so be it.
You need to have something special to do well.

Good Luck Hypothetically speaking!

I think BIN is good for quality & valued items with low demand...you are seeking the right buyer. $300 would be fair but $200 would be acceptable to get a sale.

$1m min bid gets more bidder and you hope for a bidding war....it also attracts bargin hunters. one bad element of ebay is when sellers do the $1 min bid and then have friends bid it up to their floor.

$1 min bid is good for high traffic items where either the sales price is very predictable based on past auctions or there is mystery and bidding has shown to go higher than real value...ie. bidders love Scott Speciality pages and often will put a premium on collections with them....or they love pre-1940 albums (vol 1) where they hope there will be some gems.

I think it depends on the item and description.

I have often wondered if friends of the seller manipulate the prices on ebay. I have participated in some strange auctions.

Shill bidding is rampant on ebay. My advice is to bid to your maximum and STOP. Don't be forced up in a bidding war, which may turn out to be a shill bidder forcing the price up.

I make my bids on ebay just before the auction closes, either manually or with a snipe program.

Tina has no secrect. She is liquidating her Grandfather's collection who apparently was very specialized in China. The China stamp market is likely the hottest market due much inpart to the Chinesse themselves actually now beening able to afford collect stamps and naturally most will collect China.

Warrehouse your absolutely right I have no secrets on what to do on ebay but im going to take into consideration that start low and see how that goes but not on my expensive stamps of course.Im at a stand still right now on ebay I think all my good stamps from china have soldbut im going to be putting up sets in the world wide section, taking the time to look each stamp up is killing me,so maybe by just starting them out at .99 will make things easier for me

what is it that they are talking about having friends in on it bidding? If its what im thinking, that is unfair to others, but I dont understand how they do it.I have never bid on anything so I dont know how that part works,so can someone who has done the auction thing on ebay can you explain how this works on that end.Can you see how many people have bid on that item,or how much they bid,or how many people have viewed it,or how many people are watching it? I know lots of questions but thats how Tina learns things lol

lol

its easy say someone bids on your item then you ask me since I am your dear friend to go and bid on the item so the other guy ends up paying maximum. its very difficult to figure out on a once case basis but if I bid on your auction again and again others would see that I bid a lot on your auctions and 2+2 together
