One of the most awfully designed British Stamps I've seen in a decade.
They rank alongside the Charles/Parky Balls Wedding sheet.

I will post them in the ugly thread when I get a moment.

Embarrassing, totally embarrassing.

Londonbus1.....hiding his head in RM shame !

I just want to add, it's because of this set and the earlier, equally embarrassing [and unnecessary] Record covers set, that I have stopped collecting all GB stamps on a regular basis.
I only collected Prestige Booklets from 2009 onwards, but with these two sets being issued with Prestige Books, I gave up.

Royal Mail knocked me out with crap. I couldn't take it any more.

Only the odd nice item will be purchased in future.

It is a sad moment.

Londonbus1.......But there's always Cinderellas !

You guys seem pretty adamant in your feelings, so I won't argue with you.

But I will say that I give Royal Mail 9 out of 10 points for SUBJECT matter. Maybe you don't like these, maybe they're ugly, but at least they recognize scientific achievement. The USPS gives us cartoon characters, c-e-l-e-b-r-a-t-e, and kwanzaa.

The design seems to push the discovery claimed towards the forefront (fore brain?) as it should. I dislike the well done pictures of the people peeking out from behind the idea.

Perhaps side by side would have been better?

But, I can also see the Royal Mail's disclaimer that the design was helped along by input from The Royal Society, whose main focus (usually) is of the formulation and propagation of ideas and concepts. There is a double meaning in the stamps' design.

Perhaps a proponent of just one of those ideas would be disgruntled to see a picture of a person at all, the idea should be given first place?

You're right, side by side would be better. People with the tops "sawed off" their heads looks decidedly Frankensteinian.

Incidentally, which "record covers" issue are you referring to four messages above?

Oh, hold on...I think I know what record covers you mean -- the ones released in November, right? I did some research and found them, and I think to an extent you're right -- there was no real reason to release them, unlike the previous Beatles issue. Just the Royal Mail cashing in on pop-culture icons again, I think...although it is cool to see a Clash and a Led Zep stamp.

BUT, IT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE!

I mean, just imagine the possibilities...not a pleasant thing...

AND IT COULD HAVE GOTTEN EVEN WORSE...

Thank God they've stayed away from record albums...

Moral: Other possibilities can always be far worse!

Shhhhhh...we're still trying to keep that a secret.

But then again, still better than Celine Dion...I mean, could you imagine that?

Celine Dion

As the Olympics were starting this year, one of the news stations interviewed several of the athletes from various countries to see how much they knew about Canada: "What is the capital of Canada?" "What is Canada's chief export?" etc.

They asked one girl (not sure which nationality), "Who is the Queen of Canada?"
She replied, "Celine Dion"

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry

Thanks Londonbus. I've tried to make "quality" posts, but some of them have been poor attempts at bad puns
