Mr Moderator, That is a nice "W" cancel. I reviewed past posts and saw that your March post with the "inkblot" test sure looks like at least one stamp is grilled. I still have no idea what the inkblot is supposed to be

Here is a State of New Jersey envelope, postmarked Trenton, N.J. and dated
April 14, 1864. The stamp, Sc#65, is tied with a fancy cancel.

The state seal of New Jersey includes a horse head and three plows.

Very nice. The Port Townsend kicking mule is one of the all-time great U.S. cancels. Fantastic addition to any collection!

Glad someone took the time to update this LONG post. Some very interesting and enjoyable scans of 19th century postal history here.

I feel compelled to go back to the last cover shown on PAGE 1 of this post to a "Captain Clark Partridge of Medway, Mass." As this is very near my region of the country, I decided to look up the history of this gentleman and came up with a great deal of information, including his image and house and biography. (Found it interesting that he was Postmaster for Medway, Mass. for 16 years.):

Amazing what you can find on the internet these days. It really brings that cover to "life".

US cancels seem to be rather whimsical, in the Dickensian sense.
