Andy,
What would an ultra-violet light show me and what would I look for? Aside from being a 113, no grill and being really underpaid, what additional information could you get from a certification. I do value knowledge and that's what I like about this hobby. Any additional information or guidence would be appreciated.

Under UV look for any brighter contrast that's not consistent with the cover, the stamp, and the cancel. Look for a brighter contrast area where a previous stamp could have been removed, things like that. Stamp is tied to the cover with cancel, but I'm suspicious with the authenticity of the cancel, PF can help with that, a certificate won't be too expensive and you can find out if it is a genuine usage even though 2-rate is underpaid. |

Very nice cover and contents! Looks to me like the proper 2c rate was paid to carry the letter from 30 Barclay St, New York, NY (close to ground zero) to Quarryville, PA, which is 150 miles away. |

t360,
Quarryville, PA! WOW! I have been reading that as Peru for years! I also have worn trifocals for years and just recently had eye surgery. Until you truely and correctly understood the handwriting I would have remained convinced that it said Peru and not Penn! Thank You Sir (and your eye)! |

Yes that is a classic! I would be in big trouble if I told my wife I spent 30 large on it though. |

Some military history on the addressee of the cover to Corporal Charles A. Rice (a native of Westborough, Massachusetts): It would seemingly date your cover to January 13, 1863. |

Is this a fancy cancel? The stamp is horribly centered and I can barely make out poor George's head. |
