Aussies, raise your glasses please!
to a wonderful lady.
the designer of our staple Sunday night fare.

In about 1889, Queen Margherita, accompanied by her husband, Umberto I, took an inspection tour
of her Italian Kingdom. During her travels around Italy she saw many people, especially the
peasants, eating this large, flat bread. Curious, the queen ordered her guards to bring her one of
these Pizza breads. The Queen loved the bread and would eat it every time she was out amongst the
people, which caused some consternation in Court circles. It was not seemly for a Queen to dine on
peasant's food.

Never the less, the queen loved the bread and decided to take matters into her own hands.
Summoning Chef Rafaelle Esposito from his pizzeria to the royal palace, the queen ordered him to
bake a selection of pizzas for her pleasure.

To honor the queen who was so beloved by her subjects, Rafaelle decided to make a very special
pizza just for her. He baked a Pizza topped with tomatoes, Mozarella Cheese, and fresh Basil (to
represent the colors of the Italian flag: Red, white, and green).

This became Queen Margherita's favorite pizza and when word got out that this was one of the
queen's favorite foods, she became even more popular with the Italian people. She also started a
culinary tradition, the Pizza Margherita, which lasts to this very day in Naples and has now spread
throughout the world.

Sure Rod.

It's just a "style" of pizza, made very thick in a deep pan like a pie. Lots of cheese and toppings.

Here are some Images (from Google)

Other places in the U.S. (such as New York) typically serve thin-crust pizza.

IMHO, Queen Margherita should have been considered for sainthood along with Mother Teresa.

This beautiful woman almost single handedly brought us nature's most perfect food. Just think about it. Pizza contains the finest grains (crust), wonderful dairy products from only the most contented of cows (cheese), protein rich meats from nature's most amazing four legged animal the pig (sausage), wholesome vegetables (tomato sauce), and for the nutty west coasters they even have fruit (pineapple).

Man cannot live by bread alone, but this man could live by pizza alone - if he had an appropriate adult beverage to accompany the meal, that is.

Lou Malnati's ships around the country...as to whether or not they've ever shipped a pie to India, I cannot say.

An occasional houseguest who visits from Chicago sends a box of Lou Malnati's after his stay...he's welcome anytime!

Nay! I doth protest
This has to be one of the funniest group of guys and gals around,
and, as someone mentioned earlier, "no ridicule here"
which makes all feel at ease.
Everyone has their own brand of humour, and often, I burst out
in response, spraying the screen with bits of muffin.
And you, Spock1k have the driest humour yet, I love your one liners.
Long live SCF.

I am all the way with you LaSwabbie, we can see you are a real Pizza afficianado.
You have Tomato Puree running through your veins.
When push comes to shove, I find a thin and crispy "Hawaaian"
hard to toss.
(I also find it hard to stop, I invariably <always> overeat with Pizza) and spend the next week running it off.
