Kiloware, Sorting

Well, since I am a newbie to the forum I went back and read all of the entries listed under kiloware before posting this note. As I mentioned in my profile, I have been collecting for many years. and I have found that the best place to buy kiloware is not on e-bay.
I have been collecting for 60+ years, and buying collections and large lots and kiloware for at least 50 0f those years.
My system is to look for estates and local auctions,not stamp auctions, and buy there. You will be surprised at how many estate auctions contain old stamp collections. First I look in the little shopper papers that are published in almost every area of the country and look for the section on auctions. They usually put a list of the items to be sold at the auction. I live in rural Arkansas,But there are always at least a dozen auctions to look through. This way I am usually the first to go through the lots since the first collector. The 550 pound lot that I recently purchased that I mentioned in my profile I bought at a local estate auction. The deceased collectors family had the estate auctioned off. He had been in the service and had collected stamps from all over the world as well as the U.S. It doesn't take that long to sort if you are retired and know what to save. I have sorted about 150 pounds of the off paper stamps so far in about 4 months only working on them in the evenings.
Like many other collectors I don't need any more stamps, but I still buy them, hence the handle stampaddict. I do not sell stamps on the inter-net, but I do own a hobby shop here. lots of the kiloware I get I sell there,and at our other location in another town. The 550 pound lot is the largest I have purchased at one time, but over the years I have accumulated several thousand pounds.most of which I still have. I have a grandson that is 10 years old and he has a stamp collection, so someday he can have a giant bonfire, or go crazy like his grandpa sorting stamps.

I wish I lived near you in Arkansas. I'd be broke at the start of each month.

I bought 7 kilos Canadian at auction last winter and spend - well a few weeks - sorting. What I pulled out were the specially nice commemoratives - just one or two of each - stamps that had known varities - and stamps that I could lot on ebay (I pulled out .5 kilo of foreign that sold well). When I had extracted all that I wanted I sold the rest on ebay in kilo lots and made about $100 on the deal.

If I buy half a Kilo, is it still called Kiloware ??

auctionzip.com is a good website to find local auctions and they work well with keyword searches. I use it frequently, but so far most of the collections I've found at auctions have been children's collections or gold replica FDCs. Same thing with craigslist.
