I went through Scotts to try and find this stamp. Since I don't read Russian, I had to rely on shapes/designs/pictures. It seems to be similar to mid 1940's stamps, maybe the "order of Lenin", but I couldn't find the same denomination "10 pyb" or exact picture. Maybe this is a fake stamp, I just don't know. Any ideas?

Thanks. Guess my idea about using pictures/shapes doesn't always work. I don't think I would have found that entry.

No, you were on the right track. You just have to follow the trail of footnotes at the bottom of the listings. However, to make things harder, occasionally Scott forgets to include some "See also..." footnotes.

Way to go Scott on this stamp. However, I find that I am using my catalogs more and more as time goes along and learning as I go.

I dabble in Russia. The huge number of modern listings makes it hard to locate one stamp. The earlier issues from the 20's and 30's are a lot easier to find.

I use online resources to convert cyrillic to our alphabet, then try to decipher the meaning when it's in English.

Just use wikipedia, where the translation from the cyrillic words meaning "russian alphabet" translates to "russkiy alfavit". It's not hard.
