Quote: All you see is the Blog/discussion title; the link to the 'other' place; and my signature [with some unfunny wisecrack!]. Why not go ahead? As an occasional posting, especially from someone who has contributed so much to SCF, I cannot see the harm. Sometimes, a simple link makes sense and there is no reason why people here could not react to the posting on this board. It might actually further dialog here. |

It's all about intent. New posters that come in and start throwing links around feel the wrath very quickly. Either the member stops it, or we stop it. Either way it will stop. The one's that don't stop on Their own after being warned get Their site a free trip to the bad word filter... never to be seen on here again. Established members that are obviously here to contribute are a different story. They may post links to Their blogs and sales as long as it's not abused. Abuse from established members is very rare. The good thing is, intent is usually instantly determined by the new posters reaction to Their link being removed. |

I also have seen some philatelic forums get very ugly, personal, slanderous and inflammatory. That is one reason why I like this one so much and make a point to log in daily. I don't want to miss something new, exciting, fun, and educational. |

Quote: That is one reason why I like this one so much and make a point to log in daily That is also the reason why I came straight here to 'pop' the question. To those who are still confused by my initial post [Kirk for example ! ], I want to stress that I am against links to personal Blog sites. The situation I described in my initial post was a hypothetical one, similar to the one I was discussing elsewhere last night. I do not have a personal Blog. The fun of joining groups is to write, reply and communicate. Many bloggers join groups like ours for spreading the word about their blog and this is what I don't like. Which is why I like being here with you lot so much........none of the adverse banter I had to suffer [and speak] yesterday. Thanks everyone for the opinions and to Admin for the reassurances about 'our place'. Tip top ! Londonbus1.....feel free to add to the thread...but don't bark ! |

I tend to agree with LB here.
I too belong to a few discussion groups / blogs.
There is one in particular where I feel that whenever I ask a question, it appears to go on deaf ears. I joined different study groups within that main forum and never get responses. Not even a 'welcome' in some instances.
Since I have been a member in here, which is still less than a month actually, I cannot say that I have experienced that problem in here. I have had all my questions answered or at least given a response to.
For me personsally, this forum seems to work the best.
My opinion of course <G>
Keep up the good work and 'viva le SCF"
Cheers

Quote: I think there may have been some confusion about my first post. Londonbus, I am one of those who was a little confused as to your meaning. If someone was a member just to use this site as a referral service for their site/blog, I am against it. If the poster was a contributing member and the link was to a relevant blog, Site, or other posting somewhere else, I would say OK. To clarify, If David had posted his series on KGVI somewhere else and posted a link as a new topic I would say great. For someone to stop in post it and not be heard from again for a month or 2 if at all. Them I could do without. |
