Since I collect worldwide instead of topicals, I hadn't thought of that. I think that is another very important point/perspective that you brought up.

Speculative activity is no friend to actual stamp collectors.

BTW, Cjd, I had bought some books and received them today. On one of them was a post-it note with your name on it, then scratched out and replaced with my name. Looks like the seller had reserved a copy for you, then misplaced it and sent you another copy; later on, found it again, and used it to fill my order!

It's a small world!

k

Cjd,

You're right - I generally use allworldstamps to get an idea of catalogue values, and whilst, where possible, I like to collect the complete set if the set features giraffes, where not possible I'm happy to just collect the giraffe value. Guess which option I'll be plumping for with this issue!

Presumably, though, it's not just speculators doing it - in order to create the idea of scarcity, it helps if there is actual scarcity, and given the numbers in which stamp issues are printed these days, surely the same number of the hyena value were printed as were the giraffe value? If not, then it's not just the speculators at fault, but before them the stamp issuer itself?

Khj - agreed. Although there probably aren't that many stamps worldwide with hyenas on them, so maybe it balances itself out?

PS - Apologies for not having come back sooner - have got some time on my hands whilst my VPS completely reinstalls Virtualmin, Apache and various other bits and bobs from scratch, so am catching up on some reading. I really should be reading a Linux manual from scratch so that next time I don't need to reinstall everything, but hey, this forum is more interesting. And substantially more readable!

I have a few Burundi stamps and covers in my collections - Their value is not of any great importance to me - I collected them (like my other stamps and covers) because I like them and have an interest in the Country - If I was looking for something to invest in Stamps would not be at the top of my list

I should say that no stamp is worthless if you enjoy it. And even with selling or buying, it can be proved wrong. I'll just give you an example that is indirect but that I observed in the last period. On ebay.de were some CTO lots from USSR and, even those have reached a value. For example a 3500 CTO stamps USSR all different 1960-1990 were sold for 85 EUR ( I know because at the beginning I even tough to buy them therefore I kept an eye on them). And there were several examples.
So, even the CTOs that the people are saying are worthless are sold (by even several bids... I think the one sold for 85 EUR has more than 12 bids). Of course that is 5 to 10% of what Michel says but... I think they were always sold around this value :)) And I'm not saying anything about the beauty of organize those 3500 stamps, read about their history, look at them and enjoy them.
So, to close the parenthesis, the Burundi are worthless only in the hands of the people that doesn't know to enjoy them.

Well, looks like you guys know about Burundi stamps. Does anyone know where I can find their 2010 Traditional Headresses issue (http://www.wnsstamps.ch/stamps/2010...6MS.10.jpg). I know delcampe and ebay come up blank, and all US dealers I contacted just shrug.
