I had heard from another collector that there are some Local Post stamps from NZ that show various vehicles with "Route 66" in red lettering or with a black and white Route 66 highway shield. Has anyone else seen or heard of these stamps? I would be interested in seeing some and knowing how many have been produced.

Yes, I've seen it. But it is Route 66 but the one in New Zealand. I think it was Pete's Post. http://www.petespost.com/shop_frame...ory_Code=gde

I think this is the one you are refereing to.

It is produced by an Alternate Post supplier call Pete's Post

As far as I know this is the only one produced and that was back in the 45c days. They are getting hard to come by now days but often come up in kiloware lots.

They are a Die Cut stamp and Self Adhesive so when my "How to remove Self Adhesive Stamps" thread is restored (presumably after I make 50 posts because I mentioned a URL !) you will know how to get these things off paper. You could of course ask me for one off paper

So here it is in all it's glory:

Cheers

Roly

After a bit of research

This stamp was produced in Booklets of 10.

First issue was 15 April 2003 as a 40c stamp.

When the postage rate shifted to 45c a second issue was printed and released 15 March 2004 as a 45c stamp.

Both Booklets can still be found but becoming rarer items now.

Cheers

Thanks for the info RolyRJ and Warrehouse. Roly do you have any of the Route 66 stamps to share an image of?

I came across some that are 40c, but the image wasn't clear enough to see if they were from Pete's Post. I will try to get an image to post later, unable to right now.

Here are those Locals another collector told me about. He said that they are from a company called Black Sheep. They are from his collection.

I had forgotten about black sheep (and white sheep). They are no longer in business and have been taken over by NZ Mail.

I will research this lot for you and let you know what I can come up with :)

Cheers

I think that they were issued around 2002 and in booklets by a clothing company "Route 66" in New Zealand.

The Route 66 clothing store is just down the road from where I work so I will oay them a visit and see if they have any remaining stock.

If they do I will get a few examples and get them to you :)

I received an email back from Pete's Post and they have never issued anything with Route 66, only the Route 45 Surf Highway issues that Roly posted previously.

There is a cover with 40c Route 66 stamp for sale at NZ$15 + postage.
This is a little expensive, however as so few of those stamps were produced (in year 2000)
that they hardly ever become available.

The stamp dealer accepts credit card payments. Good Luck.

I called into Route 66 shop yesterday and none of the assistants knw what I was talking about. They were all scatter brained teens more interested in their ipods than serving customers.

I managed to get hold of the Manager however and he is going to have a look through their office "junk" to see what may be around from 2002....

I guess we wait and hope huh :)

Cheers

Roly,
Thank you for checking into that for me. It doesn't surprise me that the staff didn't know anything about them. A lot of turnover in the retail world, especially after 8 years. It would be cool if the manager comes up with something.
