Will wonders never cease ? I went to the local joke of a post office to pick up some stamps to ship to trading partners over the long weekend...i was not expecting much ..to my amazement I was shown a sheet of the Abstract Expressionists..beautiful...i will have to keep them away from my wife or she will give them to my son who is a Willem de Kooning fan !!

I have not purchased a sheet yet. The small PO substation ran out of their limited quantities before I could buy 1.

None are tiny, but two of them are positively huge, requiring one to plan ahead before addressing the envelope, lest you run out of real estate.

My PO sold out their first shipment right away, too. I don't know if people are saving them or using them. I'm using them, myself.

I generally do both. 1 sheet for use and 1 for my collection. Which looks more like an accumulation as of late for my new issues. I wasn't sure about this set of stamps and how it would translate to a smaller format. Plus I think abstract impressionist art looks like a painters dropcloth most of the time.

So, I was picking up some registered mail at the PO and stuck up a conversation with the clerk about stamp collecting (will miracle never cease?) because I think she saw that the return address was from the American Philatelic Society. (That's a bit of a give away, isn't it? Pretty safe bet that I'm a stamp collector.) So, I figure it was my time to strike...did they have any of the new abstract expressionist stamps. Nope.

I ordered mine directly from the Cave and they are not bad, for modern US stamps, that is. A good effort I think and much better than the Simpsons.

Mine are at the office, so this is from USPS...

The edges echo one of the paintings...this isn't damaged.

Those are really nice looking stamps.

Size-wise how do they compare to a regular stamp?

Puzzler..they are all odd sizes the one in the upper left is smaller than a normal commemorative..i would say the stamp second from right in the middle line is the closest to a normal size ..the Jackson Pollock and the Robert Motherwell stamps are supersized !!

In the letter I posted to you, this week, there are four or five gluestick ones of those.

Phil - have you checked to see if it's the USPS selling? This could be their new deficit reduction strategy!
