Too many precancels so I think I will make a small collection of precancel oddities. I will start out with a few pix. Anyone have any to show? This first one is a Pomona Calif precancel but the word pomona on the right handed stamp is spelled Pomoma.

Another oddity, I'm not sure if it is a precancel or not, but I like it. |

Stampaddict, That Pomona, CA is type L-1. Spelling error noted. What you have is the desired way to display those varitions, se-tent. |

The Northampton, MA, shown is not recognized as a standard precancel. All versions of this without the lines above & below the city & state are all in upper case lettering not lower case as is here. It could be what is often referred to as a "Pseudo" precancel or "Provisional" precancel.
These are precancels that were used provisionally by local PM when there was a shortage of proper precancels. These used a traditional canceling device, in part or entire, so unless found unused it appears just like a normal cancel from that PO. |

The Saint Columbans is spelled correctly simply an issue of poor inking on the letter "N". |

The Hillsboro, example is likely another "Psuedo", but would we need to determine what state it came from. |

Tulsa, OK, is a DLE and inverted maybe as much as half the released issues. There is no difference in value. |

WAIT, NEWBIE dumb question:
so a PRECANCEL is the sending post-office canceling it? as apposed to what, I thought they all got canceled when sent OR is it a stamp mark on it when sold to you, with the name of that post office prior to sending?
I'm confused. |
