While going thru boxes of old paperwork that I found in my mother's house I found a couple of $2.00 bills which have a 13 cent stamp attached to the bill and it has been post marked on April 13, 1976 from the Bondsville, Ma. Post Office. Does anyone know why this might have been done?

I'd be interested in hearing why, too. Often they have an Americana 13¢ E & S stamp.

The 13 cent stamp is an American Eagle holding a Red, White, & Blue shield with the Eagle holding arrows in one leg & an olive branch in the other leg.

That's the 13c E & S (Eagle & Shield).

It was very popular at that time to get the newly released $2 bill commemorating the USA Bicentennial postmarked to prove it was acquired on the First Day of Issue. I have 1 or 2 of these bills. There was another topic thread about this a year ago. Try a search and see what comes up.
