My eyes are blurry..my back is sore..mounting San Martin stamps in my Argentina album...the value of stamps aside..what an education we get learning on our own...imagine going to college in the evening and paying hundreds of dollars for a class to learn what we can on our own with a catalog and a pile of stamps ?????

It is amazing how much we learn and have learned through stamp collecting. During my years as a high school teacher, I was always dismayed at the lack of knowledge of geography and history of the students I taught.

Think of the knowledge gained on just those two subjects through collecting.

rohumpy,
No kidding! My 6 year old son knows Geography so much better than his classmates, and we owe that largely to stamp collecting.

Viet Nam was actually dug up and relocated on the Gulf Coast - part near New Orleans and part on the Texas coast.

If you don't believe me, just go down there for a drive.

Phil is right again!

As I'm preparing to start my new Pitcairn Island collection I've been reading about the Mutiny on the Bounty, Capt. Bligh's amazing raft voyage back to civilization, and the story on life on Pitcairn and Norfolk Islands.

Velly, velly interesting!

reading about the Mutiny on the Bounty

Therein lies a query I had for years, without solving.
Why was the Bounty "HMAV Bounty" ?

It seems the Bounty was not commissioned for war, so did not
attract the name HMS Bounty, but "Her Majesty's Armed Vessel Bounty"
The stranger fact is, there are but two other ships known as HMAV
that's all apparently.
