i dont know where the used copy came from..but I do remember the fresh looking one..i was looking at a falling apart brown scott album that came in a box lot..and all of a sudden something fell to the floor...it was the unused kangaroo..i said how can this fresh looking thing have fallen out of a junk album ? it has to be a fake or a reprint its so fresh..but it does have a watermark !! I know nothing about the 10 shilling kangaroos....

Nice find, Phil. I have a few roos, but not this one. Australasian Stamp Catalog # 50 (Stanley Gibbons # 136) I only have a 1988 copy, and in that they AUD$380 unused and AUD$90 used. Just checked SG website, now AUD$750 unused and AUD$300 used. Steve |

Modern_who I have a page or two of fakes and forgeries in my Guatemala area...believe me they abound..everyone tried faking the overprints..i would be very wary when they advertise an upside down overprint on ebay for 29.95..i dont pay much for fakes myself !! |

Sperati, also called "the Rubens of Philately", was a true master. He made his forgeries by "fading out" genuine used lower values, which ensured that the "new" stamp had a genuine watermark, cancellation, and perfs. He then printed the forged impression by 2 colour photolithography, and somehow managed to get the ink under the cancellation. |
