I do seem to remember seeing a philatelic based cover in an auction catalog a few years ago. |

There's a modern error with British £2 Machin definitives which also escaped notice for a while in spite of it being quite obvious if you know what you're looking at. One stamp was missing the pound sign - considering they're engraved stamps, I have no idea how that could possibly happen (nor does the given explanation help me out). http://www.gbstamps.com/news2004_1.html#missingRyan |

I read the "explanation" and don't know any more now than I did before reading. |

Now, My friends what is more important? That whom ever made a mistake and forgot or added something to the stamps to create errors or That you have these errors and now and in the future, they are worth more than the price you purchased them for. Many times I have seen errors and yes I also have a few. But that is why we collect. To find the stamps that we enjoy. And to find the treasures that others might have missed. Do not forget If the postal service finds them first most if not all are destroyed. Thank the stars some people do not pay attention to every detail. Or this just might be a hobby that goes by the wayside. Now adays part of the younger generation is to busy playing video games or being busy on different websites. They do not enjoy the beauty of the stamp world has to offer. And the fun we have in collecting. |

I just picked up a 505 single for a very good deal. With a cat value of $350, it's not exactly cheap. But this stamp seems to be missing from many advanced collections. Now it's in mine :) Brian |

Rileysan, way to go. It is a fantastic stamp. I am still in awe of it. I am sure you will treasure it as much as I treasure mine. For me it has the added bonus of being part my favorite US series, --- the Washington-Franklins. (yeah I know it is a weird passion)
Chasa, is that a legitimate usage or a philatelic cover? The date is 1917, so it is contemporary. |

The name A.E.Owen is not one I recall as a collector/cover creator. So, as far as I know it is non-philatelic and paying a double 4-cent rate. Here is my SC 505, bought on ebay a few years ago - I collect used US and was very happy to find it: |

Not to detract from that terrific on cover usage, I just searched for A. E. Owen of Montclair, NJ and came up with this want ad he placed in a 1919 issue of Meekel's Weekly Stamp News. Therefore, A. E. Owen was almost certainly known to have been a collector at the time: |

(yeah I know it is a weird passion) I'm trying to find the passion to complete this series (minus the rare varieties, that is) but it requires determination and deep pockets. This stamp completes the 1918 set for me (Scot 498-518, 523-524) in mint, OG. It's going to take a lifetime to acquire the other varieties in mint, OG |

Rileysan---Some of the early coils are prohibitively expensive. They have been faked so much. A certificate is a must and indeed you do have to have deep pockets. A page of W/F's is a wondrous sight. They are so beautiful. |
