I've been following the story of Bill Gross for quite some time, starting with his efforts to acquire the Z Grill. I even had the privilege of viewing his outstanding (understatement here) US collection at WESTPEX a few years ago after he acquired the Z grill, and met the man (though I doubt he'd remember my name). It seems he's been auctioning off much of his collection and donating it to charity in the past few years. In fact, he's auctioning off more of it in the coming weeks as I mention in an article on my blog www.philatelictidbits.com yesterday. So, I'm wondering, what do you plan to do with your collection when you pass on? As for me, I'm not at all certain yet...

I don't think I'm all that close to death's door but I suppose I should start thinking about what to do with my collection.
My wife and kids have no current interest in collecting stamps. (Not one relative either) I have considered selling my collection in the coming years to pay for part, a very small part, of my kids college education.

I would plan on selling it before passing on. As with the other responder, I don't think my children have any interest in stamps although if they did they would have first dibs. I enjoy the hobby and have not collected with the idea of appreciation or investment but am still mindful that a fairly significant sum was used to put the collection together and therefore it does have some monetary value now-----I think the key is to dispose of it when there is still a market. I don't think there will be a market in 20 years.

My daughter is a collector herself, and has already laid claim to my collection when the time comes. It's wonderful to know the collection will continue after I pass.
