I'm having a terrible time figuring the Perfs on Australian KGV stamps. I have a SCOTT MULTI-GAUGE, and I can't figure what I have using "KGV Collector's" great information on the subject.
I have been looking for a new gauge ( Can't afford a $400 electronic goody).
Any suggestions.
Conn

I have two that I use. I also have the Scott Multi-Gauge, same as you. But, I also use a metal Unitrade Perforation Gauge. I bought it from a member here on the forum..... it says it's made in Canada. You might try www.subway.com and see what they have.

I have used a Stanley Gibbons "Instanta" for MANY years and it has never let me down! It will measure anything from 10-18 and any in between including fractional's(.1,.2,.3,.4.....). I also have a "Multi gauge" that I keep in my "Show Kit" though I rarely use it.

That Uni-Safe is the same as my "Instanta" I would recommend it.

I use a "Correcto Gauge" that I inherited from my grandfather. Got to be a hundred years old...but very accurate. Wonder if they're still made?

I have a metal 'Correcto Gauge" as well that I found in a box lot. I use that one plus an older brass Barnard's Herringbone Perforation Gage (copyright 1934) that a dealer gave me years ago.

I have a Stanley Gibbons gauge but I freely admit to being too dull to be able to use it properly. I never get a consistent reading and end up getting confused and frustrated.

I do use and am very happy with this old fashioned, but true gauge. It is easy and reliable.

Only problem is- it doesn't help me read stamps with perfs of 11 3/4.

The "Unitrade" seems to be the same as my "Correcto Gauge". How about that?

I guess I'm in the minority here really liking my Multi-gauge. After trying a whole bunch of the alternatives, it is my "go-to" gauge. I will caution anyone though that I found the learning curve to be pretty steep and I had to be persistent and patient to get comfortable with it.
