This was a bargain and you can see why, Thins, cut margin and stained, I do like it and the price was right and now it sits in the album. regards Harry

Hey, a number 1 is a number 1. And I have certainly seen (and owned) lesser examples. It is an acceptable example of a popular stamp. |

Ben Franklin always looks kind of pleased to be on number 1 I think. Nice Harry! Thanks for sharing. Doug |

Thanks both of you, really I was quite surprised to see such a great low price on this hard to get stamp and it was on a BIN so I jumped in with both feet and grabbed it before some one else grabbed it. regards |

Congrats Harry! Welcome to the world of 1847. Below is a picture of my first Scott #1 I purchased when I was 10 or 11 years of age, the best I could afford at the time but, the beginning of what would become a life long obsession with the 1847 issue. I truly appreciate the engraving and the history of our first official issue. I kept my first for sentimental reasons. |

Thanks Andy and yes the engraving is a work of art, when you look at how fine the engraving's are on many of the early stamps it reminds me of the hand of a great artist, and I think of the time and energy that went into making the die for each stamp and the amount of engraving for each plate, anyway I will find a better copy down the track at some stage but for now this will do as the first stamp in the album. regards Harry |
