... I have taken to cutting hinges down the middle so I can make the pack last longer.

... My Q-tips, which I use to moisten hinges, stay in use far longer than they should, and I make sure both ends are well used.

... I have printed my own pages on card stock, but will flip them in the printer and use the back if there is a mistake.

Is there a name for this? Philatelic Phrugality?

Does anyone else exhibit these symptoms?

Well, I have not resorted to splitting hinges YET..but since my stamp and cover interests are so eclectic(is that the word?) I can be tight as a tick...but there are TIMES when the moon is in a certain house..at that strange time when I have some disposable bucks and a certain item comes available..that I will pounce and then worry about the wiseness of my decision...afterwards...

Whereas in the past I might not have used curled or bent hinges, I take the time to straighten them out. I never thought of using a Q-tip, nice touch. But then again I am afraid to have anything near my stamp albums that might spill, even a little water needed for the Q-tip.

However, anybody collecting stamps can't be called cheap or frugal in my humble opinion.

I am not cheap, but go green. When I soak stamps, I save the bits of paper. Usually there is enough glue residue left on them so I can use them as Sticky Notes.

That's not cheap.

Being cheap is reusing the envelops after you've soaked the stamps off.

I have seen more than one envelope that was turned inside out and used again. I don't know how this was done. My attempts to repeat the process never suceeded.

That was quite popular in the Gilbert and Ellice islands, I have some. It is STILL being done by the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau to some extent, due to shortages of packing materials. Mostly it is left-over unused first day cover envelopes turned inside out and taped back together.

Believe it or not, there IS a philatelic term called Turned Covers.

Turned covers were popular during WWII in Canada. Paper was a munition, vital to the war effort, and was recycled.
