I don't have many early stamps with these watermarks:
wide crown, wide A
wide crown, narrow A
narrow crown, narrow A
Is it unusual that three of these stamps also have a vertical line near the edge of the stamp? The line is continuous from the top to the bottom. On all of these stamps the watermarks show up easily and clearly either by holding the stamp up to a good lamp or by holding it over a dark background.

I am a bit confused, (not hard to do :)
Is the line in the watermark?, or a printed line?
If watermark it is part of the "dandy roller",
if printed it is the "Jubilee line" a ridge to
add strength and rigidity to the printing plate

Hi KGV Collector:
All three of the stamps involved are the same design that appears beneath your name but not necessarily the same color or denomination. The line is a watermark and not printed. All of the crown and A watermarks appear to be the same at first glance but after a few caomparisons the differences are apparent. My concern is if any of these stamps really have the multiple large crown and A instead of the singular design, which would, of course, give them entirely different catalog numbers.
I have had some of these stamps for decades but it took a long time for me to build up enough confidence to try to catalog them correctly. There are so many watermark varieties and then, of course, the ones without watermarks.
Thamks for the help.

halflizard I am not up to date on Aust State watermarks but your description fits the roos and map of Australia. If so the big one I call fat boy which is 1st wmk, the middle size one with pointed shoulders as per KGVs is called 2nd wmk, the skinny one is the 3rd wmk. The continues outer watermark lines I have always called the marginal line which occurred with all the large A with large crown on top eg 1st,2nd and 3rd wmk. You can also get a corner one as well. The large multiple wmk is only in KGVs and I cannot remember if they came with a watermark marginal lines but small multiple wmk and CofA wmk had no marginal wmk lines. Hope this has been helpful.

Hi KGV Collector:
Thanks for your help. I think I have won the battle with the early Australian stamps.
