Just a show and tell.

PPC The Berlin wall 1962, 1 year after its construction.
Shows "Checkpoint Charlie"
will fit in nicely with my "Spy" collection.

Struck with commemorative cancel "12th Berlin Film Festival"
Not the "Oscar" but the "Golden Bear" award
which went to "A Kind of Loving" (Alan Bates)

Silver Bear went to James Stewart for "Mr Hobbs takes a Vacation"

Hi Rod

I remember when it went up and when it came down.......

When it went up it was like half the world was suddenly gone..........never thought I see it come down in my lifetime.

In the event that anyone wonders what the German words on the postcard mean, a well educated gecko translator may offer this:
Wall and barbed wire, straight through Berlin.
Lizardly,
halflizard

I forgot the slogan I was planning to insert here.

I think this topic has struck a cord,
thanks gentlemen for your comments,
and the translation, I was hoping for that.

I do not remember anything of the wall going up,
it was my second year as Naval Apprentice, and away from home.

I do remember the Cuban Missile crisis of that year
and remember "holding my breath"
We looked towards the US with great affection both for the
country, and Kennedy.

Postscript:
I guess I must have known of the wall,
"West of the wall" was a number 1 hit in Australia in July 1962
and I recall that very well

BTW:This clip will provide you with the genesis of John Cleese's
"Ministry of funny walks" see if you can spot it.
