Hi,

I've come over from the Coin Forum and need to learn a lot! The easiest thing for me to do would be to pack up all these stamps and leave it for someone else to deal with; but I'm a glutton for punishment and want to give it a try. LOL!
I'm going to start with some British Post Office Mint Stamps and British Forces Official First Day Cover. The Mint stamps are number 118, issued on 7 May 1980 titled London Landmarks. The first day cover is four stamps depicting horses/ponies which are posted/canceled on 5 JLY 78 at Forces Post Office 190.
I just arbitrarily picked these out of the pile. Can you give me some idea of their value? And what is the best way of valuing the others?
I've got a mess of individual stamps and pages out of different albums along with those like described above and need to get a handle on them. So without a doubt I appreciate all help in getting started.

Glen

The mint stamps are about a dollar.
The forces FDC is about the same but it depends on where it was posted from...someone may consider it more valuable !

If you do not have a Gb catalogue list, you will find one in your localk library. Or you can ask here !

And welcome.

Thanks for the information and the welcome! I do believe I'll have to check out whats available for reference material at the library. I really hate to bother you guys over and over. Do values correspond to the mintage numbers; and if so is there any online material showing that figure?

Welcome to the group Glen

I am sure you will enjoy it here like I do and I am a fairly new member in here as well, for about 3-4 months now. I also used to collect Canadian and US coins but gave up the coin collection in the hopes of bettering a growing stamp collection, plus the fact I was 'made an offer I couldn't refuse' for a great stamp collection for my coin collection <G>. I still have some coins kicking around though, mostly Canadian, some US and foreign as well but do not actively buy coins.

I hope that you get the same satisfaction from stamps as you did coins.

Happy collecting

Hello Glen......

.....and welcome to the club.

Please ask as many questions as you wish.....you will find many members here to be very willing to help. Also, helping new collectors helps to fend off the effects of early Alzheimer's !

Stamp values generally have very little to do with the number issued.

If you only have a few countries to study at this time......this seller sells & auctions Scott catalogue by individual countries and I've found him to be quite reliable.
