Hello to the forum members I am new here.First of all idlike to introduce myself. My name is Eddie and im from Virginia.I collect paper advertisments and recently purchased several old trunks full of letters and advertisments from the 1840's to about 1900.There are hundreds and hundreds of stamps from the 1800's in these trunks.I have been scanning the letters and found a stamp today on a envelope I have questions about. The stamp is on a 1855 envelope from a cotton and tobacco agent from Richmond,Va.The stamp is a non perforated one cent ben franklin.I would like some info if possible about this stamp as far as identifying the number etc. Thanks for any information and I will be posting alot here im sure.

Boy am I ever jealous! A trunk full of these is a collector's dream.

Can you post a detail of just the stamp? There are a number of varieties with small differences in design but big differences in value. The only thing that hurts the value of your's is that it is badly stained.

If you should get tired of sorting through your trunk, I know where you can find someone who would love to have even a few covers or stamps.

Hello crozet86......

Welcome to the club......

A #9 on cover books at $150.00......but cut close and stained I would guess that you could get $25-40 on ebay.

Hundreds and hundreds ????.......just the kind of thing most of us would love to have ! Please post lots of pictures.

Got any U.S.A. 1847 issue, #1 or #2 in that trunk? If there are I'd be interested if you wanted to part with some.

Andy most of the items so far are from the 1860's - 1880's.I am finding alot of loose stamps throughout and im sure when I hit the bottom of the trunk there should be some older stamps.I am only about 1/4 of the way through so lots more to dig through.
