The interesting things about this envelope are the brown coloured paper it's made of and the air mail blazons or etiquettes all around and under the back flap also.

Part of the cancel says ALPES-MAR**, sent on March 11, 197, or is that February 3? Not sure how France cancels work around this time period so I am guessing here. Need more examples to compare with.

Hello Puzzler,

I think the date is probably 3rd November 1947.

The département on the postmark is Alpes-Maritimes so the town name at the top may be Cannes.

That looks similar to glassine (calendered paper)

Thanks nigel. Once you know how the names work you can get it a lot better than a newbie at it, like me. French ones anyway.

Rod, the paper feels waxy, very striking appearance.

Yes, that fits I think.
Maybe the "super" calendered paper was used for the first
"window envelopes", I need to research.
