In your opinion what makes a great collection? Is value, coverage, completeness, or what?

Completeness is some respect is near the top of the list. An example of every type or issue of the stamp. Sometimes this is very hard and nigh impossible, considering price, to do, but very satisfying when achieved.

Of course, at times everyone has to draw the limits to what they consider or have to limit their consideration to, as to completeness or coverage. You might be happy with a complete basic set or just a few representative cancels or just the designs and not the perf varieties. Depends.

A lot of this always comes down to one's own personal choices. What you are happy with at the time.

Of course, things and feelings do change over time due to many circumstances and happenings. One sometimes has to adjust and adapt.

Appreciate what you have while you have it. Pretty simple.

I am just so rapped to be a stamp collector and the more bulk and stamp work the better. I like living in my little stamp world and most times the stamps do not talk back!!

KGV, you need to get the stamps from Bhutan that are LPs or DVDs (maybe) that you can listen to. Sounds too quiet there.

Then again, you don't need stamps that talk back. That would be a bad thing.

Thank you very much for sharing Puzzler! Amazing stuff! In Aussie we have a scented stamp but a stamp that talks back is going to take a lot to beat! Stamping is always full of surprises! Great stuff!

I would have to say completeness of a collection or as near as one can get. Overall value does not concern me, especially since I do not track what I spend. As someone with the collector gene/virus I have always strived for having 1 of each in whatever I'm interested in.

Hello ironhelm.......

I disagree with everyone.............a great collection is one you are happy with based on your own budget.

I agree with NR. The issue is what are you comfortable with. By the same token your interests will probably be fluid and changing overtime with your satisfaction level with any collection or segment of your collection reflecting changing interests. This should not be a source of discouragement. Just go with it. Just another thing that makes this hobby so great. It tends to be anything but static. Remember you only have to please yourself.
