Maximaphily : Impossible Concordance.

Australia Post markets these postcards as "Maxi Cards" for $13.60

These pose some real queries.

To qualify for concordance (FIP Prague) the card, the stamp, and the postmark should be of the same topic.
This would appear to be impossible with the subject matter
of an overseas joint issue stamp.
With a FDC cahet postmark, are these then still Maxi Cards?

The barred stamp area suggests prepaid.
Can I just mail these off to japan and Scotland
without a stamp?

I made a mistake with price, at $13.60 I can understand
worldwide pre paid.

For the record: these 5 maxi cards and a "fossil detector"
keyring ultra violet light (which didn't work)
part of the Oz "creatures of the slime" was an AustPost giveaway.

Look similar to one's we have in Canada.

Our postcards issued with some stamp issues:

The small text below the postal indicia says For posting in Canada and delivery worldwide.

They cost $1 plus the domestic rate postage (whatever) plus tax.

By the way, I like your Australian ones better than Canada's because they at least have a stamp stuck on. We get a kind of stamp on the back.

Canada missed something about the Maxi card business in Great Britain and Australia and elsewhere I think. I tried to make some myself but the ink cancel just doesn't stick to the card's shiny surface. I'd have to ruin it by sticking a white label on and sticking the stamp on that and canceling away then. I saw one made by a fellow and he said he had to wait 6 weeks for the ink to dry.

Puzzler, does your post offices sell those PCF cards? I may be missing some Halifax ones.

Looking at the Australian Postcards closer Puzzler,
I can see the FDC cachet postmark to be certainly inked,
but "punched" into the card, with what I consider to be a possible steel die,
to give longevity to the impression.

I have seen some around here and there. I do not frequent downtown touristy areas too much nowadays where perhaps more could be found but in the nicer weather it is a draw and I do want to get to the post office RPO that has the pictorial cancel.

I do not have any catalogue on them at all and have not perused your site to see if you do. I was buying some to create FDCs myself or perhaps thematic maxi cards with Picture Postage but my grand plans fell though and I was left with a lot of them. Any you need I would be glad to send your way. (Not all though, I still have dreams!)

Can you tell me which ones by naming the picture or your site's catalogue number or some such? I can scan what I think is correct and see if I guessed right too.

That is perhaps the way it should be done. It would keep the ink there longer. I have not examined other Maximum cards to see what different countries use. I just know the results of my attempts with the rubber stamps.

I do like a stamp on as, to me, the stamp is the main attraction, especially if engraved.

By the way, nice cards Bee See. How did you get the Louisbourg NS postmark at that time? Send them away to Louisbourg or where you there? I do like those special FDI postmarks. They grow on one.

I just noticed that the stamp on the postcard is an Australian stamp about the neolithic site(s) in Scotland. Does Australia have neolithic sites? Are the sites about the Aborigines? I saw some of their rock drawings / paintings. Spooky being around such old stuff. Dreamtime and all that. I felt someone was watching me all the time I was there. I am also behind the times in my archeology or anthropology readings. Paying too much attention to nanotechnology and such stuff.

Puzzler, that's just the topic of the co-joining joint issue,
we have nothing comparable in Australia.
We have our Aboriginal sacred sites, I believe one site
in Central Australia actually has images purported to be
a ship under sail.

We have a real problem in Australia with youth appreciating
our real vast history, most would take history as from the first
settlement without appreciating our aboriginal legends.
Things are improving, and Aboriginal stories are getting told,
but when they actually become fused with the Aussie psyche, only
time will tell.

The Joint issue is promoting "world heritage".

Who hoisted those suckers up there ?? (Stonehenge) it always amazes me in Peru how they put those huge stones together with barely a gap..i try it with hand sized stones in my back yard..i need a lot of gravel !!

Stonehenge circa 1904 was sold to a private buyer for a modest sum
A couple of acres type of thing that included the stones.
He should have set up a hot dog stand and toilets,
he wouldn't have to have worked again.
His family would have been looked after for ever.

The site below has a lot of information about maximaphily; I seem to remember that Dorin sprayed the postcards with something to allow the oils from the cancel to become permanent (prior to stamping)- the information is somewhere on that site but at the moment I can't seem to find it lol. I am sure one of you will...
