This pesky stamp has a surprisingly high price tag.

Does anyone know of a source which is reasonable and not in the $40.00 price range? I have searched ebay and nothing there.

The stamp is part of the Americana Series, and evidently was only issued as part of a booklet pane (I think).

As an Americana Series specialist, I can tell you that there was a small number of this perf variety printed. The 9-cent was issued on grey paper in coil and sheet format.

Thanks Puzzler, I went to the site and it was a buy it now and I bought it now.

As a follow up question, why did not my e bay search turn this up? What am I doing wrong? I put the words Scott 1590A into the ebay search box and it does not find a 1590A.

Thanks to you too, David. I envy your knowledge of the Americana Series. I have only a basic set of one of each. And now that 1590A is on the way the basic set is finished.

Nice to fill up a spot!

As for the search, with both "Scott" and "1590A" in the search box, this auction wouldn't have been returned as a result, lacking the word "Scott" in the item description.

There are probably several ways to skin this cat, but when I'm looking for a particular cat #, I go to the "Stamps" subcategory and put the number in the search box. If that returns too many results, I use the country subcategory to further refine the search.

For searching by Scott number (or other catalogue numbers) just use the number and letter. Don't use Scott or other terms. Using the # (hatch) sign is ignored by ebay's search.

The best search for 1590A would be 1590* (asterick) as that is a wild card and shows all titles having 1590 as the start of a term. Then you can narrow down the results (if too many) with going to specific categories or adding extra terms or minus terms like '1590* (us,usa) -greece' .

When you use 'Scott 1590A' it means show me the titles just having Both Scott AND 1590A. It does not mean show me any titles with Scott OR 1590A.

In order to do that you would have to use a word/term plus the terms you want in parentheses separated by commas.

Example:
stamp (scott,1590A)
would return all titles with the word Stamp AND either Scott/scott OR 1590A/1590a.

Just putting the two terms together in parentheses does not work unfortunately.

There is another way also. You click on Advanced Search next to the search button and choose from the drop down menu 'any words, any order'. Extra steps involved so most folks don't want to do that, including me. Short and sweet is best in searching.

I tested the suggestions and found that, hurray, they worked fine. Thanks guys.

The word Scott was throwing the searches off.

1590A revisited: After getting the pair of 1590A and 1623Bc, I poked around on ebay and there was a FDC of what the seller said was a pair of 1590A and 1623Bc. Price---$1.99, buy it now. I thought this had to be an error on the part of the seller, but bought it anyway. It arrived yesterday, and guess what--- it was as advertised.

From "none" to "two" in less than a week. That's a good week!
