Can anyone throw some light about this USA cancellation on a GB stamp

It's not an American cancel, but British slogan cancel. I believe you are seeing most of the slogan --

USA OLYMPIC CROWN MINTED IN SUTTON

I don't know the nature of the cancel (what it means, why it was created), but I do know that others in that slogan format exist such as

ISLE OF MAN QUEEN MOTHER CROWN MINTED IN SUTTON

That's all I know. I'll leave it to someone else to explain.

I'd guess the slogan is advertising the Pobjoy Mint, a private mint based in Tadworth near Sutton, Surrey. The logo looks similar to Pobjoy's current one, althought the lion has got a lot more assertive!
